Courage is rewarded

neon gila
I'm a dentist-phobe. A very serious one. There is nothing that is harder for me than going to a dentist...well, maybe climbing a ladder, I got problems there too.

So you can imagine what it took to make me call a dentist this morning and make a same-day emergency appointment. Yes, friends, really serious toothache. Like, keep you awake, jaw-throbbing pain. In the past, I probably would have waited a few more days to see if it would go away (it wouldn't, it never does), but this weekend is my birthday and the last thing I wanted on my birthday was excruciating dental pain.

So, I found a nearby dental practice that both took my largely unused dental insurance, and could see me today. And lo! After a rapid and very kind examination, the dentist said that it was not an abscessing tooth, but in fact a gum infection. I have antibiotics to take. It will go away!

In my euphoria of relief, I have made an appointment for next week to have a complete check up and cleaning. Doubtless there will be work to be done. There always is. Not only do I fear dentistry, I have terrible teeth which have required vast amounts of work over the years.

Anyway. No root canal this time! Rejoice!

I throw acorns wildly and inaccurately in joy at your lack of root canal!

Strength. Courage, REWARD!

Yay for you.

I had bad teeth that required considerable amounts of work over the years. Then I moved here, got a new dentist, and have only had regular cleanings since. Knock wood, knock wood. One of my crowns has developed a crack and will need replacing at some point, but never before have I gone for six years, or even more than one, without additional work after the cleaning. The thing is, he seems like a good dentist. He keeps upgrading his equipment, learning new and better techniques, and so on.

May your teeth have reached the same free zone mine have been in these last 6 years.

That would be very good, but is very unlikely. The same genes that built my joints so very poorly also built my teeth. I have very thin, poor tooth enamel, and that leads to a world of hurt.

Congratulations to you, though!

*gentle hugs* if you want them. Dental work terrifies me, even though the last two or three rounds have not been that bad. And Scraps is -- well, he will be on Xanax beforehand for a week, if I have any say in things.

Thanks! I'm feeling kind of poorly this morning, but in less pain. It's clear that the infection is fighting back, but losing. I'm hoping it improves through the day, as the antibiotics really take hold.
